# Verification

## Verification (KYC & KYB)

To open your virtual accounts and move money with Sorbet, you'll need to complete identity verification — **KYC** if you're signing up as an individual, **KYB** if you're signing up as a business. Verification is powered by [**Sumsub**](https://sumsub.com/), a global identity provider, through our payment infrastructure partner [**Due Network**](https://www.opendue.com/). You may see Sumsub's screens during the process — that's expected.

### Individuals (KYC)

#### What you'll need

* A valid government-issued photo ID — passport, national ID card, residence permit, or driving licence (accepted document types vary slightly by country)
* A selfie taken via webcam or phone camera, to match against your ID
* Your personal details: full legal name, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, and phone number
* A recent proof of address — a bank statement, utility bill, or government letter, generally no more than 3 months old
* A short questionnaire covering how you plan to use Sorbet, your expected monthly transaction volume, your occupation, and the source of your funds

{% hint style="info" %}
Some countries have additional requirements. Nigeria-based individuals need to provide their BVN. Argentina-based individuals complete an additional sworn declaration on the source of funds and PEP status, as required by local regulation. If either applies to you, Sumsub will prompt you for it during verification.
{% endhint %}

#### Who can't be verified

* **Minors.** You must have reached the legal age of majority in your country of residence.
* **Politically exposed persons (PEPs)**, their immediate family, and close associates.
* **Residents of certain countries**, listed on our Country Eligibility page.

### Businesses (KYB)

#### What you'll need

* **Company details** — legal name, registration number, entity type, registered address, tax ID, and company website
* **Ownership and control** — anyone who owns 25% or more of the company, plus all directors, with their name and percentage ownership where applicable
* **Documents** — a certificate of incorporation (or good standing), a bank statement from the last 6 months, and either audited annual accounts or a recent tax return
* **A business questionnaire** covering what the company does, its industry, the countries it operates in and serves, expected monthly volume, and the source of its funds — including a simple diagram of how money moves through the business
* **Sign-off** from an authorised signatory at the company

{% hint style="info" %}
If your business is regulated (for example, as a money service business or financial institution), you'll also need to provide your licence, your AML policy, and your Compliance Officer's contact details.
{% endhint %}

#### Who can't be verified

* **Businesses in certain sectors**, including arms and defense, unlicensed gambling or banking, unlicensed pharmaceuticals, shell companies, and a handful of other regulated or illicit activities. Full list here.
* **Businesses incorporated, headquartered, or operating in certain countries** — the same list that applies to individuals.

### What happens after you submit

A member of our compliance team reviews every submission. Most individual verifications are completed automatically within minutes; higher-risk cases and all business (KYB) applications get a manual review, typically the same business day. Where everything's complete, businesses can expect a decision within about 48 hours.

If anything's missing or unclear, we'll reach out and ask for it rather than rejecting your application outright — so keep an eye on your email during this step.
